Graham Stewart asks whether Scotland can retain its pre-eminence in the games industry as Edinburgh prepares to host its annual interactive festival.

As the games industry prepares to take centre stage this week at the 'Edinburgh Interactive 2009' festival, we ask whether Scotland can maintain its pre-eminent status in software development in the face of increasing global competition.

Co-founder and life president of Eidos, Ian Livingstone, and Endemol's managing director of digital media, Peter Cowley, tell us where the interactive industries are headed.  And Professor Bernard King, principal of the University of Abertay in Dundee, gives us his take on the skills shortage.

With town centres across Scotland benefiting from a share of millions of pounds of Scottish Government cash to help revitalise their local economies, Rory Auskerry reports on how businesses in Orkney plan to transform Kirkwall town centre.

And there could be further good news in the pipeline for Orkney as a marine energy company prepares to trial an innovative wave power device just off the island. Martin McAdam, chief executive of Edinburgh-based Aquamarine Power, tells us about converting the power of the ocean waves into green electricity.
