The alliance is struggling to work out an appropriate exit strategy in Afghanistan and internal conflicts are a major hindrance. Relations with Russia are tense and look set to worsen as the alliance expands eastwards. Sackur asks Scheffer if NATO can find a unity of purpose with the new US administration.
