Two bitter rivals renew their animosity when an attractive widow moves onto their street.

Two neighbours (Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau), who have been rivals since a youthful feud over a woman, renew their animosity when an attractive widow moves in across the street.

Two neighbours, who have been bitter rivals ever since a youthful feud over a woman, renew their animosity when an attractive widow moves in across the street. 

The new arrival is a welcome diversion for the old adversaries and when they both attempt to woo her, only one can win her affections. When it becomes clear that the widow is interested only in commitment and her new lover has other ideas, she begins to doubt her original decision.
