Live coverage from the first day of the games, including the British men's coxless four starting their title defence, the men's cycling road race, boxing preliminaries and sailing.

Adrian Chiles and Hazel Irvine present a full round-up of all the overnight action and stories with a look forward to the rest of the first day of competition alongside analysis, features and interviews with the key figures making the headlines.

Live action includes rowing, as John Inverdale and Steve Redgrave are at Shunyi to introduce the start of competition, with six British crews in action in the heats including the men's four as they begin the defence of their Olympic title. Commentators are Garry Herbert and Dan Topolski.

The first of Britain's eight boxers are in action, with the spotlight falling on middleweight James Degale and light-heavyweight Tony Jeffries. Commentators are Jim Neilly and Richie Woodhall.

Britain's Craig Fallon in the 60kg judo category shoulders the weight of British expectation as Team GB's best prospect for a medal on day one. Commentators are Nick Mullins and Nicola Fairbrother.

The sailing regatta gets under way at Qingdao with the focus on the Finn class, where Ben Ainslie's quest for a third gold starts and the Yngling crew, led by Sarah Ayton, begin the defence of their title. Commentators are Shirley Robertson and Richard Simmons.

Plus, the conclusion of the men's cycling road race through the streets of Beijing, with commentators Hugh Porter and Gary Sutton.
