Caroline and her son Toby flee Florida in search of a new life, far from Caroline's abusive ex-boyfriend. They end up in Seattle, where Caroline meets Dwight, an ex-military man, who may be able to tame her rebellious son. Dwight marries Caroline, but after their first night together, Caroline knows that she has made a tragic error when Dwight reveals his true colours. Tyrannical, mean-spirited, and demented, he is a man who relishes mentally tormenting his new family.
