In 2013 the Afghan cricket team qualified for the World Cup for the first time. This inspirational documentary followed the Afghan cricket team who - against all the odds - led a meteoric rise up the international league tables in their bid to qualify for the World Cup. Against a backdrop of war and poverty, Batting for Afghanistan: Out of The Ashes, traces the remarkable journey of a team of young Afghans as they chased a seemingly impossible dream-shedding new light on a nation that has endured three decades of war and devastation. The film crew travelled with them from refugee camps in Pakistan - where many of the players learned the game as boys - to practice sessions in Kabul and on to qualifying tournaments overseas.
