America and The World

Duration: 40 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC WORLD NEWS EuropeLatest broadcast: on BBC WORLD NEWS Asia Pacific

Looking ahead towards the US election, we unpack some of the deeper issues facing America, both domestically and in terms of international relations. We look at race, by speaking only to white Americans about their recent experiences during a period of racial tension. We also look at how divisions over immigration and to do with Muslims after shooting incidents will play out in the election cycle by talking to two top Republicans, ex Governor Jan Brewer, who is in the frame as a potential Trump running mate, and Chuck Hagel, former Defence Secretary to Obama but also a Republican. We also travel to Egypt, to look at human rights under Sisi, and ask what kinds of foreign policy dilemmas America faces now in the Middle East. Show less
