England won their group at the Euros for the second time under manager Gareth Southgate despite draws against Denmark and Slovenia, and they have never lost to Slovakia in any of their six previous meetings.

Slovakia reached the last 16 after finishing third in a fiercely-fought Group E, but they have never won a knockout match at a major tournament, losing in the last 16 of both the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2016.
