The competition hots up as the seven remaining make-up artists are booked to create campaign looks for one of the world’s leading sneaker retailers, Foot Locker. Under the watchful eyes of inspirational sneaker influencer Sherlina Nym and Foot Locker’s vice president of marketing, Slavka Jancikova, the make-up artists are each given a pair of sneakers and must create a youthful and aspirational look with a pop of colour that compliments their sneakers.
This week, the stakes are higher than ever as all the models are needed for the campaign, meaning that every MUA is under pressure to deliver. When one unlucky make-up artist’s look isn’t up to scratch, they are asked by the client to redo their whole look, leading to a stressful, last-minute push to meet Foot Locker’s exacting standards.
For the make-up artist with the best look, there’s an incredible prize in store: the chance to have their work displayed in Foot Locker’s flagship store in London and an invitation to work on a future campaign. With so much at stake, the competition among the make-up artists is fiercer than ever, and a rivalry begins to develop between two particularly competitive MUAs.
The next day at Glow Up Studios, the make-up artists face their second creative brief, and the two who failed to impress with their campaign looks find themselves in the dreaded red face-off chairs, which come with a 15-minute time penalty.
The theme of this week’s creative brief is 'opposites attract', and the make-up artists are asked to create a look that celebrates and brings together the beauty of opposites. Before they get started, the MUAs are blown away to discover that their guest judge is legendary social media star Mitchell Halliday, also known as Mmmmitchell, the self-made owner of a cosmetics empire and a visionary make-up artist, famous for his colourful transformations and easy-to-follow hacks. For several of the make-up artists, Mitchell is a personal icon, and one MUA movingly shares how Mitchell inspired him to get into make-up.
Keen to make their mark on the competition, the make-up artists create some truly breathtaking looks, including a zebra-lion hybrid, a sweet and sour lime-strawberry fusion and an X-ray vision that totally transforms under an inverted filter. For one lucky MUA, their efforts are enough to earn a coveted Ding Dong from Val.
After the Creative Brief, the MUAs in the red face-off chairs discover if they have done enough to get themselves out of the seat and escape the dreaded Face-Off Elimination, a taxing battle of technical skill carried out on a pair of identical twins. This week’s challenge is to create dazzling glitter lashes, and after a nail-biting 15 minutes, the bottom two discover who has done enough to make it through to next week, and who will go home.
