Incontinence and pelvic prolapses can be debilitating conditions, and so for many women, the offer of a surgical mesh cure, available on the NHS, was a lifeline. But in many cases, the supposed solution has made things much worse. Norma from Scotland had mesh surgery to help fix her prolapsed bladder after childbirth but ended up in extraordinary pain and was forced into early retirement. Urological surgeon Professor Hashim Hashim explains why the practice has been suspended altogether in some parts of the country, and how women can get a reversal operation if they need it.
