The Travelling Auctioneers

Series 2

Unusual Umbrella Stand

Duration: 43 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One HDLatest broadcast: on BBC Two Northern Ireland HD

Available for 2 months

Louise’s parents moved into the house next door to allow them to devote time to their grandchildren. However, not long after her father tragically passed away, Louise learned her mum had motor neuron disease, and when her mum sadly succumbed to the condition, Louise and her husband, David, inherited the property.

Now, the couple need to sell up, as keeping two West Sussex properties is proving far too costly. However, Louise’s parents were avid collectors of antiques, and every surface and space boasts an object that could be worth a lot of money. Afraid of throwing away something valuable, they’ve turned to the Travelling Auctioneers for help. Will the items hold a degree of hope, and will the proceeds help Louise and David's children through university?

A Chinese vase, once used as an umbrella stand, catches auctioneer Izzie Balmer’s keen eye – it’s potentially worth hundreds of pounds. A brass carriage clock and some Moorcroft pottery will also attract bidders. A forgotten collection of jewellery, including a diamond ring, promises to shine at auction.

Some of the antique furniture Louise’s parents used is showing signs of wear, so restorer JJ Chalmers is ready with useful hacks to remove water stains from wood and repair cracks in pine chests.

The auction takes place not far from the beach, but can Izzie persuade the day trippers to dig deep into their pockets to pay top prices for the incredible collection going under the gavel? And will JJ’s offer to help a lady to her car elicit a winning bid? Show less
