A woman climbs one of the area’s notoriously challenging peaks, Tryfan, in order to scatter her late father’s ashes. But when her foot hits loose ground on her descent, she finds herself careering down a sheer mountainside. Stuck on a tiny precipice, with sheer drops below, she is too terrified to move. And in this difficult terrain, the rescuers struggle to find her – let alone rescue her. Only when helicopter teams get involved to search from the air do they spot her in one of the Tryfan’s countless gullies. Then a specialist ropes team must be airlifted up to rescue her.
Dense tree cover proves an equally difficult environment for a missing person search, when an elderly man with dementia gets lost in in one of Wales’s largest forests on one of the hottest days of the year. The police helicopter, mountain rescue and search and rescue dogs are called in to help find him before he comes to harm. And a teenage girl must be carried by stretcher down a steep mountainside after she falls and badly injures her ankle while on a day walking up Cader Idris with her family. Show less
