Huw Stephens celebrates the history of the National Eisteddfod of Wales...

Held in August each year, the National Eisteddfod of Wales is one of the largest celebrations of Welsh culture and language ever, and the events history can be traced back as far as 1176! It was later revived as an organisation in 1861.

In this collection of clips from 1934 to the present day, we hear from some of the many notable figures who have attended the National Eisteddfod of Wales through the years, including the then Princess Elizabeth, Sir Bryn Terfel, David Lloyd George 1st Earl of Dwyfor, and Paul Robeson to name a few.

This programme is part of 'Radio Wales Rewind', delving into the sound archives to celebrate stories from the past.

Presented by Huw Stephens. Produced by Stuart Russell, with support from BBC Archivist, Miles Orchard. Show less
