James King curates a Pocket Guide to the Movies, revealing his key films from the 1970s, and while the biggest film of the 60s was the sweet sing-along The Sound of Music, it didn't take long for the next decade to get gritty.
Clint Eastwood went from the poncho-wearing hero of the spaghetti westerns to Dirty Harry and Play Misty For Me, amongst many other films, but his biggest hit was when he co-starred with an orangutan called Clyde in the offbeat comedy Every Which Way But Loose. The 70s also brought a new breed of directors, including Francis Ford Coppola with The Godfather, and Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets a year later. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg crashed onto the scene with the 1975 megahit Jaws and, of course, George Lucas made Star Wars. Not forgetting the three biggest soundtracks of the decade; A Star Is Born, Grease and Saturday Night Fever.
