James King curates a Pocket Guide to the Movies, revealing his key films from the 60s including the spectacular epics Spartacus, Ben Hur and The Alamo, as well as the top three movies at the 1960s box office, which were The Graduate at three, The Jungle Book at two, and The Sound of Music in the top spot for the decade.
The changing mood of the decade was reflected in the surprise Hitchcock horror hits Psycho and The Birds, and by 1969 the mythology of the America dream itself was being examined through a fresh lens, courtesy of Easy Rider, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Midnight Cowboy, which was the first and only X-rated film to win the Best Picture Oscar.
