Tha Jackie Robinson, air a stiùireadh le Ken Burns, Sarah Burns agus David McMahon, ag innse sgeulachd Jack Roosevelt Robinson, aig an robh toiseach iriosal, ach a chuir crìoch air sgaradh cinnidh ann am ball-beusa agus a rinn iomairt airson co-ionnanachd do dh'Ameireaganaich Afraganach a bharrachd air na choilean e mar lùth-chleasaiche.
"'S e Jackie Robinson an neach as cudromaiche san spòrs as motha nar dùthaich," arsa Ken Burns. "Thug e dhuinn a' chiad leasachadh maireannach ann an còirichean sìobhalta bho àm a' Chogaidh Shìobhalta, agus bho chrìochnaich mi mo shreath Ball-Beusa ann an 1994, bha mi ag iarraidh film a dhèanamh mun ghaisgeach Ameireaganach seo. Bha uimhir ri innse, cha b' ann a-mhàin mu a shoirbheas an aghaidh sgaradh cinnidh ann an 1947, ach mar a leasaich àrach a' ghràin a bh' aige air claon-bhreith agus mar a chùm e air ag iomairt an aghaidh ana-ceartas cinneachail às dèidh dha a dhreuchd a leigeil dheth ged a bha e aig ciaradh a latha."
Jackie Robinson, directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon, tells the story of Jack Roosevelt Robinson, who rose from humble origins to break baseball’s colour barrier and waged a fierce lifelong battle for first-class citizenship for all African Americans that transcends even his remarkable athletic achievements.
“Jackie Robinson is the most important figure in our nation’s most important game,” said Ken Burns. “He gave us our first lasting progress in civil rights since the Civil War and, ever since I finished my Baseball series in 1994, I’ve been eager to make a standalone film about the life of this courageous American.
"There was so much more to say not only about Robinson’s barrier-breaking moment in 1947, but about how his upbringing shaped his intolerance for any form of discrimination and how after his baseball career, he spoke out tirelessly against racial injustice, even after his star had begun to dim.”
