’S e dreuchd gu math sònraichte a th’ aig ministear agus bha seo fìor gu h-àraidh anns na 60an agus na 70an. Duine foghlamaichte, anns an robh earbsa aig daoine ’s aig an robh seasamh làidir anns a’ choimhearsnachd. Ach an dùil cò ris a bha e coltach nam b’ e d’ athair a bha a’ searmonachadh anns a’ chubainn?

Tha an craoladair Cathy Nicdhòmhnaill a’ bruidhinn ri clann a’ mhansa an là an-dè, a chaidh an togail aig àm an uair a bha buaidh mhòr aig an eaglais. Tha i a’ bruidhinn ris an Urramach Iomhair Màrtainn, fear a lean ann an ceumannan athar agus a tha a-nis na mhodaràtair air Eaglais Shaor na h-Alba.

Tha i a’ faighinn facal air Jessie Mary Little, nighean an Urramaich Aonghas Mac a’ Ghobhainn, am ministear a chaidh an aghaidh bàtaichean-aiseig na Sàbaid ann an 1965, agus tha i cuideachd a’ còmhradh ri Dòmhnall Iain MacAmhlaigh, mac an urramaich Murchadh MacAmhlaigh, a tha a’ mìneachadh mar a thug creideamh buaidh làidir air a bheatha fhèin, am measg cuid eile, is iad uile ag innse sgeulachdan mu am pàrantan agus mu sheirbheisean ’s na h-òrdaighean, a’ dèanamh dealbh math de na sgìrean eaglais anns an deach an togail. A’ coimhead air ais, ciamar a tha seo air buaidh a thoirt air mar tha iad fhèin a’ coimhead air an t-saoghal?

A minister's important role was much to the fore in the 60s and 70s. A person whom people trusted, who was knowledgeable and well-educated, and who held a strong position in the community. But what was life like if your father was the one preaching in the pulpit?

Broadcaster Cathy Macdonald talks to sons and daughters of the manse, who were brought up during a time when the church had far reaching influence. She speaks to the Rev Iver Martin, who followed in his father’s footsteps and became a minister, and who is now the Moderator of the Free Church of Scotland.

She chats with Jessie Mary Little, daughter of Rev Angus Smith, the well-known minister who protested against Sunday sailings in 1965 and she also speaks with Donald John MacAulay, son of the Rev Murdo MacAulay, who describes how faith has had a strong influence on his life. They all share warm-hearted stories about their parents, church services and the camaraderie of communions, creating a portrait of the parishes in which they grew up. Looking back, how has that upbringing informed their world view?
