Waste

Duration: 28 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One LondonLatest broadcast: on BBC One Scotland

Available for years

Dom lifts the lid on what really happens to Britain’s waste, finding out how our non-recyclable rubbish is turned into energy to power our homes and businesses. He’s up bright and early with a waste collection team before following the rubbish from our wheelie bins to a waste transfer station, where he rummages through the refuse and confirms what’s recyclable and what's not. The black bag waste is then transported to a power plant in Buckinghamshire, where Dom discovers how it’s burned to create electricity for the National Grid. His mentor is Gillian Sinclair, a head of development for one of Britain’s biggest waste management companies. Does Dom have what it takes to join the men and women who work tirelessly in the smelly, dirty world of waste disposal? Show less
