With training and education being an important part of life at Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park, university students get hands on experience with some poorly penguins.

After a fight with some teenage Northern rockhoppers, the zoo’s oldest penguin Mrs Wolowitz isn’t her usual sassy self. Worried about what could be wrong with the elderly penguin, vet Adam undertakes the tricky task of getting her x-rayed.

In Koala Territory the fluffy marsupials are getting their weekly weigh in. Keepers Lorna and Dawn recruit the help of a cuddly toy to coax the zoo’s little joey onto the scales. Also, the zoo’s oldest koala Goonaroo has a check-up on his nasty eye infection.

At Highland Wildlife Park it’s pedicure time for the markhor, as keeper Andy trims their hooves and the keepers spot a problem with Myrtle the markhor.

The sun bears are on the hunt for treats as keeper Chloe hides enrichment in their enclosure, much to the crowd’s delight.

In Edinburgh the staff are tested with a surprise ‘Escaped Animal Drill’ and newly promoted senior keeper Callum is thrown into the deep end as incident commander, while keeper Erika takes on the role of playing the escaped Diana monkey.
