Asian Network News Presents

Ditching BAME & Banning Tobacco

Duration: 1 hour

First broadcast: on Asian NetworkLatest broadcast: on Asian Network

UK broadcasters have listened to criticism of the term BAME and say from now they will avoid using it. Critics have said that the term lazily and crudely lumps non-white people together. Ankur chats to author Meera Sharma, UK editor of Brown Girl Magazine Sejal Sehmi and model Karanjee Gaba about this and how they feel about the term BAME.

Ankur also chats to guests DJ Manny, DJ Jhumka and presenter Soraya Assadar and asks – do people smoke to look cool and should tobacco be banned? This comes after New Zealand said it will ban smoking for the next generation – so anyone born after 2008 will not be able to buy tobacco products in their lifetime, this under a new law expected to come in next year.
