The Ghillie’s Story represents a heart-warming and nostalgic tour through the Outer Hebrides’ unique freshwater angling world presented through the eyes of the often overlooked, but ever present, oarsman - and expert - the 'humble fishing ghillie'.

This documentary follows Uist-based ghillie and lifelong angler Seumas MacLetchie as he meets fellow ghillies – some retired, some working. Together they fish favourite waters and share colourful tales of life on some of the Hebrides' unique sporting estates.

As Seumas travels the islands, from the likes of the Grimersta River in Lewis, to remote mountain lochs and turquoise sea-pools of Harris and Uist, he examines how the ghillieing culture has changed over time and considers what makes working the fresh waters of his native islands so remarkable. He is rewarded with a charming and eye-opening collection of tales from the water’s edge.
