Coverage of the men’s road race at the World Championships in Flanders, Belgium, with France’s Julian Alaphilippe hoping to retain the prestigious rainbow jersey.

Alaphilippe, who became the first Frenchman since 1997 to win this event, should be fresh for this year’s race, having decided against competing at the Tokyo Olympics. His potential rivals include Denmark’s Mads Pedersen, who won the road race world title in 2019, and Belgium’s Wout van Aert, who claimed Olympic silver this summer.
