Megan is a wildlife expert who campaigns for animal rights and has a passion for shark conservation. Her mission is to look into the threats facing sharks in British waters and around the globe, from the deadly fin trade to industrial fishing, which have caused shark population numbers to fall dramatically in recent decades.
One species she is keen to know more about is the blue shark, millions of which are caught each year for their fins, which can fetch thousands of dollars in Asia and have also ended up in Chinese restaurants in the UK.
Megan also investigates the story behind a recent report that one of the nation’s favourite takeaways – fish and chips – has been linked to a species of shark which is listed as globally vulnerable and is on the brink of extinction in British waters.
Megan meets up with marine biologists and shark conservationists to find out more about the dangers to British sharks and explores ways in which sharks and other fish species can be protected. As part of her mission, she heads to the Cornish coast and dons her snorkelling gear to try and get a glimpse of the beautiful blue shark in its natural habitat. Show less
