Green-fingered Murdo Macdonald visits some of the country’s most important gardens to explore their design, plant-life, setting and history.
Murdo goes to 'The Impossible Garden', Inverewe, on the coast of Wester Ross near Poolewe. He finds out how the unique climate impacts on the plants they are able to grow, including rare Wollemi Pines and insect-eating plants in the Savage Garden. He’ll also find out more about the history of the garden from those who work there now.
Roddy Maclean explains what lichen is and what it tells us about the environment, and Dr Mark Newman of The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh tell us more about insectivorous plants.
Tha gàirneilear sgileil, Murchadh Dòmhnallach, a’ tadhal air cuid de ghàrraidhean mòra na h-Alba, a’coimhead air an cruth, na tha fàs unnta agus an eachdraidh.
Sa phrògram seo tha Murchadh a’tadhal air “Gàrradh Do-dhèanta” – gàrradh Inbir Iù ri cladach Taobh Siar Rois faisg air Poll Iù. Gheibh e mach mun bhuaidh a th’aig an deagh aimsir air na lusan sna craobhan a tha a’fàs aca, leithid giuthas tearc Wollemi, agus, sa Ghàrradh Fhiadhaich, lusan a dh’itheas biastagan. Cluinnidh e cuideachd eachdraidh a’ghàrraidh, bhuapasan a tha ag obair ann an-diugh.
Tha Ruairidh MacIlleathain a’mìneachadh dè th’ann an crotal, agus dè dh’innseas e dhuinn mun àrainneachd, agus tha barrachd aig an Oll. Mark Newman a Gàrradh Luibheanach Rìoghail Dhùn Èidinn ri innse mu dhìtheanan a tha ag ithe chuileagan is eile.
