The Bidding Room

Series 1 (Compilations)

Episode 4

Duration: 29 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC One HDLatest broadcast: on BBC One Northern Ireland HD

Nigel Havers welcomes three more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to five professional dealers who are on the lookout for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower.

First up is Princess from Surrey, with a set of carved wooden apples, all cut into different numbers of sections to help children learn about fractions. With a similar item having sold for £600 at auction, can Princess sell for a tidy sum?

Part-time entertainer Chris has brought in a bed of nails. He arrives complete with his performing cape and is determined to put on a show for the dealers, with the help of Nigel. Lying down on the nails, Chris invites Nigel to step in as his glamorous assistant and demonstrate the item by standing on his chest. (Not something anyone should try at home!).

Finally, 18-year-old Jude has brought in a beautifully preserved, original account of a First World War Zeppelin raid on Southend. The hand-written account was penned by one of the families who lived in the area attacked by the Germany aircraft, as a precursor to the later bombing raids on London. Simon reckons this one of a kind piece of ephemera will appeal to a number of dealers, including James, who loves buying historic items. So will Jude manage to sell for the price she’s after?

Today's dealers are Adi, Ian, James, Jane and Tash. Will any of them match – or even top – Simon's valuation of each item? Show less
