The MOBO Awards

Highlights 2020

Duration: 1 hour

First broadcast: on BBC One LondonLatest broadcast: on BBC One Wales HD

MOBO Awards 2020 is a virtual, 90-minute celebration of black music and culture, bringing together stars from music, film, TV, sport and online to celebrate outstanding achievements, performers and moments across culture in 2020.

This unique ceremony involves ten awards, two cultural films and nine unique performances from some of the biggest and most exciting names in music right now, all unified with a positive narrative of mobilisation after one of the most extraordinary years ever – from a global pandemic that took so many loved ones and shut the world down, to the very public killing of George Floyd, the subsequent outrage that swept across the globe and the rise to prominence of the Black Lives Matter.

A strong vein of cultural purpose and social commentary weaves through the show as we tell the story of the year that was but also articulate a vision of the world as it could be. The end result is an expression of who we are as a culture and where we are going in 2021 and beyond as we end the year on a bold, optimistic note.

Hosted by Maya Jama and YouTube sensation Chunkz, the show contains unique video-style performances from across the globe as well as a number of specially shot ‘as live’ studio pieces from international stars of drill, hip-hop, grime, dancehall and Afrobeats, including Loski, Tiwa Savage, Stylo G, Ms Banks, Kojey Radical, H.E.R., Headie One and M Huncho.
