Newly qualified nurse Lauren has reached breaking point in one of the busiest A&E departments in the UK. However, with a ground-breaking scheme in place at the hospital Lauren is one of the lucky few who have access to qualified mentors. One of these mentors is 16-year veteran Taz, whose task is to tackle her nurses’ concerns and keep them fighting for the NHS.
We also meet staff nurse Jasmin, who is responsible for co-ordinating the huge number of ambulances arriving into the hospital. Emotions run high when, after a particularly tough day, she seeks the support of senior mentor, Beverley. As Taz negotiates an urgent move for Lauren to a new department, Jasmin gets offered the chance to switch out of A&E and take things down a notch on a quieter ward, but on her final shift in the A&E department, she is the first on hand to deal with a patient suffering from the symptoms of Covid-19.
