Maddie is finding out about machines that use suction! She heads to a road sweeper depot to learn how all the parts of a road sweeper work together. Maddie attaches her special cameras onto the road sweeper so she can see it in action, before getting in for a ride. Maddie then watches the hopper as it is emptied into a skip – it’s really messy!

Next, Maddie is at a paper straw factory, where she sees how paper straws are made out of strips of paper called ribbons. She uses her slow-motion camera to see how three layers of ribbon wrap onto a long pole called a mandrel to make a paper straw. They are chopped to the right size and packaged, ready to be used.
