Ramsay MacMahon’s motto in life is to work hard and play hard. It’s with this in mind that he always has something planned to look forward to at the weekend.

In this programme, Ramsay heads north to the Orkney Islands where he has a busy few days getting to know this archipelago of scenic fertile islands and turquoise blue waters.

He learns about warfare on Orkney during WW1 and kayaks out through crystal clear water to see one of the boats sunk deliberately to block the route for German U-boats into Scapa Flow, the UK’s naval base during the war.

Ramsay discovers the history of WW2 in Orkney as well through a visit to the Italian chapel. A former Nissan hut, it was transformed by Italian prisoners of war who, with no place of worship, carefully hand-painted the interior of the hut and turned it into a spectacular work of art.

Tha Ramsay MacMahon den bheachd gum bu chòir dhut gabhail ri d’ obair agus do chur-seachad le deòin is spionnadh: mar sin nì e cinnteach an còmhnaidh gu bheil deireadh sheachdain tarraingeach roimhe.
An-diugh tha e dol suas gu eileanan Arcaibh - torach, bòidheach air druim a’ chuain – agus dà latha son eòlas a chuir orra.

Tha e a’ cluinntinn mu shuidheachadh Arcaibh aig àm a’ chiad Chogaidh Mhòir, agus a’ gabhail a-mach le kayak a choimhead mar a chaidh soithichean a chuir chun a’ ghrunnd gus bàtaichean-aigeann Gearmailteach a chumail a-mach à Scapa Flow.

Tha comharran an dara cogaidh cuideachd ann, leithid a’ cheapall Eadailteach. Bha na prìosanaich-cogaidh Eadailteach, gun eaglais no taigh-adhraidh, mar sin chur iad romhpa seann seada Nissan a’ sgeadachadh gu am miann. Pheant iad gu brèagha is gu cùramach an taobh a-staigh gu bhi na leug àlainn ealain.
