When city life and work get too much what you need is something to look forward to at the weekend. Ramsay MacMahon, who lives and works in Glasgow, is a firm believer in this mantra and in this programme he escapes to the East Neuk of Fife for two days.
Ramsay is serious about his carbon footprint so in this programme he ditches the car and makes his way on foot, following the Fife Coastal Path, between the pretty seaside villages of Earlsferry and Pittenweem.
Ramsay gets an adrenalin rush on the Elie Chain Walk. With the help of its climbing aids he conquers less easily accessible sections of the coastline and scrambles over rock and cliff.
He stops at St Monans bowls club to try his hand at the sport at the town’s local team and in Pittenweem he learns about the town’s dark history of witch-hunting. After all that walking, Ramsay cools off with a dip in Pittenweem’s old sea-swimming pool.
Nuair a tha beatha is obair sa bhaile gad leamhachadh, se tha dhìth ach deagh dheireadh-sheachdain air fàire. Tha Ramsay MacMahon a’ creidsinn ann a bhi cuir cùl ri Glaschu agus a’ teicheadh – an t-seachdain seo, gu dà latha air taobh sear Fìobha.
Mothachail air truailleachd, tha e a’ fàgail a chàr às a dhèidh agus a’ coiseachd staran-cladaich Fìobha, eadar na bailtean beaga brèagha, Earlsferry is Baile na h-Uaimh.
Tha a’ chridhe a’ plosgadaich nuair a thig e gu ceum a’ chàbaill taobh Elie – ach gu dearbh tha e na chuideachadh far a bheil an t-slighe corrach is doirbh, is cha bhiodh e furasta faighinn seachad air na creagan às aonais.
Tha cur-seachad nas socraiche a’ feitheamh ann an Cill Mhaoininn – gèam bobhladh – agus ann am Baile na h-Uaimh cluinnidh e nach e buill a bha iadsan a ruagadh ach bana-bhuidsichean. Tha e cho math gu bheil amar-snàmh mara ri làimh sam faigh e fois.
