Another Francis Durbridge thriller featuring BBC radio's smoothest investigator and his glamorous wife.

On a flight home from New York, Paul Temple and Steve meet the Fergusons, who are flying to England to visit their student son Richard at Oxford University. At the airport, they learn that Richard has been shot dead. The only clues are a postcard from Harrogate signed 'Jonathan', and Richard's missing gold signet ring. Who is Jonathan, and what is his connection to the dead man?
