In this episode the BAFTA-winning series follows the North West Ambulance Service as they prepare for England's meeting with Croatia in the World Cup semi-final. As the country comes together in hope and excitement, the crews nervously anticipate the increase in calls that will follow no matter what the result.
The shift starts with a call from a man who says he has murdered his wife. The call has a huge impact on Frank who reveals that this is the second time he’s taken a call like that. Then, in the EOC, a call comes in from a panicked father whose wife is about to give birth. As the patient is in an advanced state of labour, the caller is warned that he might have to deliver the baby himself!
When the final whistle blows in the semi-final, England have lost, leaving the ambulance service to pick up the pieces. In the first hour after England lost the match, nearly 300 calls flood in. Reports come in of assaults after a massive group fight at a pub. Michelle and Joe get dispatched to a 17-year-old female who was punched in the face at the pub and is now falling in and out of unconsciousness, and back at the EOC the team deal with a call regarding a patient who has been stabbed.
