Top barristers Sasha Wass and Jeremy Dein look back at their examination of a seaside case of murder and mistaken identity from 1900 - a case involving false names, suspicious journeys and 100-year-old evidence.

Great Yarmouth, September 1900. A woman’s body was found amongst the sand dunes in this peaceful seaside town. She had been murdered. The first mystery facing police was not identifying the killer, but the woman herself - she had been staying in Great Yarmouth under an assumed name. A clue from her clothing allowed the police to name her as Mary Jane Bennett, and suspicion immediately fell upon her estranged husband, Herbert.

Over 100 years later, Herbert’s great-grandson Paul had doubts about his ancestor’s guilt and teamed up with barristers Sasha and Jeremy to re-examine the case. Could a modern investigation shed new light on the evidence that was used to convict Herbert for murder?

Now it’s nearly a year on from their investigation, and the barristers catch up with Paul to find out how he’s been pursuing the case. They discover that he has been back in Great Yarmouth on the trail of his great-grandfather’s mysterious brother-in-law. Could this be the breakthrough he’s been so desperately searching for to unlock this mysterious case? Show less
