The Review Show

Da Vinci’s drawings, a new Taming of the Shrew, and the problem with Pitching In

Duration: 28 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Radio Wales FMLatest broadcast: on BBC Radio Wales MW

Gary Raymond and guests critics take a look at the great, good and not so good in the Welsh arts scene in the show that’s not afraid to say what it thinks. This month Gary is joined by author and critic Nick Davies and academic Dr Michelle Deininger.

The panel give their views on Leonardo Da Vinci: A Life in Drawing, the exhibition at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff commemorating the 500th anniversary of the artist’s death. They explore why Pitching In – a comedy drama set in a Gwynedd caravan park - caused such a furore on social media. As the Library of Wales series hits its 50th and possibly final book – Stevie Davies’ The Element of Water – they reappraise this novel from 2001 and discuss the impact of the literary collection as a whole.

And they describe their reaction to Michael Fentiman’s direction of Jo Clifford’s sharp re-imagining on The Taming of the Shrew – a gender-swapping version of the Shakespeare play currently at The Sherman Theatre. Show less
