Maude Hunter (mezzo-soprano) A section of the BBC Northern
Ireland Orchestra
Directed by David Curry
These special concerts of Irish dance music are given by a section of the BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra, which has been formed to bring out the colour and rhythm of traditional music. Ceilidhe bands usually consist of fiddles, fifes, and drums, and occasionally a harp, but the combination to be heard tonight is made up of three violins, cello, double bass, harp, flute doubling piccolo, and accordion doubling piano; and xylophone, vibraphone, drums, and celeste, all doubled.
