The Viceroy Sent for Me

on BBC One London

'One's whole life is devoted to recreating the past and making it live' -Sir Mortimer Wheeler battle-cry until he died in 1976. The second of two Chronicle films on the life of the great archaeologist takes him from a Roman trading station on the Bay of Bengal to Mohenjo Daro - the great city of the Indus Civilisation. In 1950 he returned to Britain to begin a new career - in television, where he enchanted millions.
