Banjo Man

on BBC Radio 4 FM

William J. Ball of Bristol is regarded by many of his admirers as being the world's greatest exponent of the classic ' finger style ' banjo. Yet he has never sought fame or fortune from his playing, and almost prefers his piano. Aged 68, he has retired from his job as a warehouseman and talks to Hugh Sykes about his music and admiration for the great Joe Morley. He meets a couple of friends too. one of them quite unexpectedly.
