Makarova Returns

on BBC One London

It was so much - it was so many things....lean write thousands pages of book and still cannot describe.
NATALIA MAKAROVA
Earlier this year,
Natalia Makarova , (pictured above with her mother) the great Russian prima ballerina, returned to her homeland after 19 years in exile. She defected to the west in 1970 while her company, the Kirov Ballet , was appearing in London.
Thereafter, the Soviet authorities regarded her as a criminal. Now, thanks to glasnost, she has been invited back as an honoured guest.
This Omnibus report records an extraordinary ten days in which Makarova was reunited with her family, worked with the Kirov Ballet and at last danced again before her rapturous Leningrad audience. Narrated by Ludovic Kennedy.
