Patey's Pavilion
At the end of Hope Street high on a hill above the Mersey looms Liverpool Cathedral. A Gothic building of plum red sandstone designed in 1902 by Giles Gilbert Scott, it is the largest enclosed space in the world and also one of the youngest, completed only last year. Dean Edward Patey shows Peter France the splendid vistas, modern stained glass, and the highest peal of bells in the world.
Also taking part are JOE RILEY , the Cathedral's historian, TOMMY MURPHY , a stonemason still working there after 40 years and the organist, NOEL RAWSTHORNE .
