A weekly series introduced by Johnny Morris with Tony Soper.
A magazine of stories about animals, sometimes in the wild, sometimes in the home, and sometimes in the zoo - but always magical.
From the West
Living on the Devon-Cornwall border, Tony Soper has heard many tall stories from the local fishermen, and the name Jenny Hanniver has cropped up in many of these stories. On investigation, Tony found that Jenny Hanniver is a local name for sea monsters, and in this edition he goes into the way in which some very commonplace sea-dwellers could have been adapted to create these Jenny Hannivers or sea monsters.
Also in today's edition: Keith Shackleton, well known for his paintings, takes you to a favourite bird-watching island on an estuary of the South Coast. Not very remote but fairly inaccessible, this island is the haunt of waders and wildfowl who fill the air with flight patterns from the classic V-formation of Brent geese to the shimmering backdrop formed by thousands of wheeling Dunlin and Knot.
