The French-born Varese
(1883-1965) arrived in the USA in 1915 and set up the International
Composers' Guild in 1921. It was soon joined by the all-American Ruggles (1876-
1971). During the early 20s, each composer established a musical style that was to last him a lifetime - in both cases a lifetime of painstaking work, although on quite separate paths. Ruggles Toys
