Ketelbey was born in Birmingham. For a time he was a pupil of Dr. Herbert Wareing at the Midland Institute ; he composed a piano sonata at the age of eleven, at sixteen he was appointed Organist of St. John's, Wimbledon ; and at twenty-two he became Musical Director of a West-end theatre. For five years he was Musical Director to Andre Charlot. His compositions have won several notable prizes and have achieved great popularity.
