Wheat breeding-for long the selection of the best from the best and hoping for the best-has been greatly helped by the ability of breeders to manipulate chromosomes and even single genes. It seems quite possible that research on the chromosomes of wheat may also indicate ways to prevent some human cellular abnormalities.
