A commentary on the race by Richard North , with a Race Reader,
J. L. Topham from the Knavesmire Racecourse,
York
The time-honoured Ebor Handicap (to be broadcast for the first time) is one of the big prizes of the York August meeting, which opened yesterday and closes tomorrow, and in point of quality might be called the Ascot of the North.
The Ebor is a Plate of 2.350 sovs. (this year's value), second to receive 250 sovs., and third 100 sovs. The course is left-handed and quite flat, I4 miles of galloping over the historic Knavesmire, one of the fairest courses in the world, the draw giving no material advantage to any runner.
Since the war the race has only once been won by the same horse in successive years-Flint Jack, in 1922 and 1923. It was won last year by Sir Abe Bailey 's Weather-vane.
