The first of a new series of 14 programmes designed to help you choose your next holiday.
Each week Holiday 70 will present ideas and reports on a variety of holidays, ranging from a fortnight on a narrow boat being towed along the Llangollen canal by a horse to an all-inclusive package deal to watch a football match in Mexico City.
Programme One goes to the Greek island of Corfu and, in particular, to the Club Mediterranee, a very special kind of holiday camp. But what is it that makes a holiday at one of these villages so popular? The programme also visits Jersey, one of the Channel Islands, and the southernmost part of Britain. Being the only piece of Commonwealth soil to be occupied by the Germans during the last war does make the islands sound unique. Our report examines the general amenities of Jersey, and asks is it really Britain's South Sea Island?
