THE SHAPE OF THE EARTH

on Third Programme

by DESMOND KING-HELE
Research focused on one target often Quite unexpectedly throws light on another. This is well illustrated by the greatly increased knowledge of the shape of our planet that has derived from space research. To Quote the speaker. ' two years' use of artificial satellites led to more progress in the subject than two hundred years of crawling on the Earth's surface.' How this came about is explained by Mr. King -Hele in this short version of the Duke of Edinburgh's Lecture he gave to the Institute of Navigation.
