One hundred years ago electric tramways were being set up throughout Britain, and quickly the faces of towns began to change.
You could tell a town by its tramcars. Many still run in their original liveries at the National Tramway Museum at Crich in Derbyshire; they provide a permanent record of a particular kind of public transport that developed, flourished and all but died in the space of 100 years.
