on BBC One London

As part of the VE Day celebrations, the conclusion of a two-part look at the BBC during the Second World War.

BBC reporter Frank Gillard describes how Field Marshal Montgomery regarded the wireless as the "fourth arm of warfare". Meanwhile, singers and performers like Vera Lynn, Yehudi Menuhin, Charlie Chester, Henry Hall, George Formby and Noel Coward kept the country cheerful with music and comedy. And in Europe, the BBC's foreign language broadcasts brought news and encouragement to a Nazi-occupied Europe.
