A. D. BUCHANAN SMITH
(From Aberdeen)
This evening, and again on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, ten-minute talks dealing with the show at Aberdeen of the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland will be broadcast. In each a different section will be discussed so that farmers and others who are unable to attend the show may be kept in touch with it as closely as possible.
The Highland Society was founded in 1784, but there had been two associations in Edinburgh for the improvement of agriculture before that date. During the first fifty years of its existence the Society was not exclusively concerned with agriculture ; it interested itself in all matters which might be of advantage to the Highlands. The first general show was held in 1822 in the Canongate of Edinburgh. Its last visit to Aberdeen was in 1928.
