In 1940 Benny Goodman lured trumpeter
Cootie Williams away from Duke Ellington. The result was a powerful addition to the Goodman band and a new seven-piece small group. In this fourth programme, Geoffrey Smith looks at the work of this septet which also included tenor saxophonist Georgie Auld.
